We’re back, baby! I am very excited to be back hosting supper club this week and honored to be hosting another event for Ladies Who Lit a few days beforehand. We’re running a collaborative event focused on grief, gathering, and food—all inspired by Aisha Muharrar’s Loved One. If you haven’t read it, I recommend you do. And while you can’t attend these events (they’re sold out), you can check out LWL for yourself and save the date for the upcoming SSC events.
September Supper Club will be Saturday, 9/19. Chef Giles is back and its steak night in Chicago! Think French Bistro meets my living room. Reservations open this Wednesday at noon. You can email me at supperatsaffron@gmail.com or DM the Instagram @supperatsaffron to reserve once open. While SSC is always dietary inclusive, some meals are easier than others. If you don’t do red meat and do not like mushrooms, you might consider a future event instead.
October Supper Club will be Saturday, 10/10. A fall feast put on by me, Steve and Sofia. If it’s anything like the summer evening on the patio we put together in June, it will be quite special. Reservations open on September 10th at noon.
A reminder: Events are always at 6pm on the far north side of Chicago. Tickets are $65 and include a cocktail, the meal, and table wine. Dietary restrictions are accommodated to the best of our ability, but all meals are cooked in a home kitchen with allergens present.
While I have no shortage of ideas on what I’d like to write for you, I’m really just getting back into the swing of things after a summer of fun (please note, I do not mean to imply summer is over. For me, it is very much not). I hope to be back in your inbox soon but until then, here’s an extra-long joy list.
The Joy List
A good pair of wide flowy pants, bag charms, learning to grill, banned books, s’mores, hanging new wall art, a front porch, bikes, spending the whole weekend outside, baking with stone fruit, going to the movies, successfully tracking down a good restaurant in a new city, The Art of Loving AND The Great Divide live in one week, Singing and dancing and sweating with thousands of other people, a really good tuna tartare, finally getting a reservation you’ve been chasing for years, Sarti Spritz, watching baseball, ice cream every night, an art show, swimming in the lake with your clothes on, underwater hand stands, my neighbor’s patio, finally jumping in the lake, capri pants, happy hour at the beach, bagel sandwiches, rainbow sprinkles on oatmeal, and noticing that despite the chaos, this summer has been full of swimming, time outside, frozen treats, and joy.

The return of capri pants means so much to me as a short individual! Can’t wait for September Steak Night!!! 🥩 🍄🟫 🍸 🍟
